Your journey, day by day

Day-by-day itinerary

Calgary skyline

Welcome to Calgary, the gateway to the Canadian Rockies. Arrive at your leisure and settle into the iconic Fairmont Palliser in the heart of downtown. Spend the evening exploring the vibrant Stephen Avenue Walk or enjoy dinner at one of Calgary's acclaimed restaurants.

Rocky Mountaineer train in the Rockies

Board the Rocky Mountaineer at Calgary Station and begin your journey through the foothills into the heart of the Canadian Rockies. Your GoldLeaf dome car offers panoramic views as you wind past the dramatic Bow Valley, through the stunning Spiral Tunnels, and along the Continental Divide. Gourmet meals are served in the lower-level dining room.

Lake Louise turquoise waters

A free day to explore one of the world's most photographed locations. Walk the shoreline of the impossibly turquoise Lake Louise, hike to the Plain of Six Glaciers teahouse, or take the gondola up to the summit of Lake Louise Ski Resort for sweeping views of the valley. In the afternoon, consider a drive along the Icefields Parkway or a stroll through the town of Banff.

Mountain valleys along the rail route

Re-board the Rocky Mountaineer for the most dramatic leg of your journey. Today's route follows the Kicking Horse River through the towering walls of Kicking Horse Canyon, past Rogers Pass and the snowcapped Selkirk Mountains, through the lush Shuswap region, and into the desert landscapes of Kamloops. Watch for wildlife from your dome car as the scenery transforms from alpine to arid.

Fraser Canyon and Hell's Gate

Your final day aboard the Rocky Mountaineer takes you along the Thompson River, through the dramatic Fraser Canyon with its towering cliff faces, past the churning waters of Hell's Gate, and through the fertile Fraser Valley. Arrive in Vancouver in the early evening and transfer to the elegant Fairmont Hotel Vancouver in the heart of the city.

Vancouver harbor and mountains

A free day to explore Vancouver at your own pace. Cycle the Seawall through Stanley Park, visit the vibrant Granville Island Public Market, explore Gastown's cobblestone streets, or take the Sea to Sky Gondola for a breathtaking coastal mountain experience. Your travel advisor can arrange optional excursions including whale watching or a float plane tour over the Gulf Islands.

Enjoy a final breakfast at the Fairmont before your transfer to Vancouver International Airport for your departure flight. Carry with you the memories of one of the world's greatest rail journeys.
