Day-by-day itinerary

Salt Lake City with mountains

Welcome to Salt Lake City, the gateway to the American Southwest. Arrive at your leisure and settle into the luxurious Grand America Hotel. Explore Temple Square, stroll through the vibrant downtown district, or enjoy panoramic views of the Wasatch Mountains from the hotel's rooftop terrace. A welcome dinner introduces you to the flavors of the Southwest.

Red rock canyon landscape

Board your Canyon Spirit train and begin the journey southward. The route climbs through the Wasatch Range, winds along the Price River canyon, and descends into the dramatic red rock country of eastern Utah. Watch the landscape transform from alpine meadows to towering sandstone formations as you approach Moab, gateway to Arches and Canyonlands National Parks.

Colorado mountain autumn foliage

Today's route is the crown jewel of the Canyon Spirit experience. Travel through Ruby Canyon's towering red walls, across the vast Grand Valley, and into the heart of the Colorado Rockies. The Glenwood Canyon section — with its 1,000-foot walls rising on either side of the Colorado River — is visible only from the train. Arrive in the historic resort town of Glenwood Springs, famous for its natural hot springs.

Colorado mountain pass

Your final day aboard the Canyon Spirit train follows one of the most storied rail routes in America. Climb through the heart of the Rocky Mountains via the historic Moffat Tunnel route, traverse the Continental Divide at over 9,000 feet, and descend through a series of tunnels, loops, and switchbacks into the Mile High City. Arrive at Denver's beautifully restored Union Station, where your hotel awaits in the heart of the historic building.

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at The Crawford Hotel before your transfer to Denver International Airport. Alternatively, extend your stay to explore Denver's vibrant craft brewery scene, the Denver Art Museum, or the nearby Red Rocks Amphitheatre — one of the most iconic concert venues in the world.
